Xiaogang Zhang's Home Page
I am a PhD student in the Distributed Object Technology Group, Microsoft Research Institute (MRI), commenced in April 1997. MRI is located at Department of Computing, School of MPCE, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.
Sometimes I may look like an extremely concurrent person, though haven't been distributed too much yet. Currently I am working on modelling concurrent objects with pi-calculus, and concurrently working on topics in distributed concurrent data structures. By distributing energy in two dimensions, I hope that both theoretical approach and practical approach can be merged in my research.
I have two Bachelor degrees. After receiving my engineering degree in Hydrodynamics from Wuhan Transportation University, Wuhan, China, I worked for two years as a lecturer in Guangzhou College of Harbour Engineering, Guangzhou, China, teaching Hydraulics, Higher Mathematics and Programming Languages. At the same time, I was also involved in a research project "Shallow wave pattern analysis and calculation" in the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics, Zhongshan (Sun Yat-sen) University, China. Later, I joined the Guangzhou Research Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou and researched in ocean wave energy utilization for three years.
After arriving Australia, I first settled down and worked in Adelaide, the beautiful capital city of South Australia.
In 1996, I moved to Sydney, full-time studied in School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of New South Wales, and received my honours degree in Computer Science with First Class. Concurrently, I worked full-time as an analyst/programmer in the University of Sydney, developing a new Student Information System. I left this job in order to start my PhD study in April 1997.
My other activities? You can guess from my bookmark my bookmark (and you may find lots of interesting stuff and useful tools for youself, incluing academics, politics, news, dictionaries, phone books, maps, Chinese culture, etc.) It is the Netscape bookmark file displayed by a cgi program.
When surfing on the internet, you may find many other Xiaogang Zhangs, or Zhang Xiaogangs, including an artist Zhang Xiaogang. Though we are not related or even met each other, I am glad that there exists an artist mirror of mine in the world, because now I can explain to myself that why I didn't inherit some artistical genes from my mother, who is also an artist. Some of her paintings can be found online. (And here are more about my family)
